About the Enamelists Gallery
The Enamelists Gallery, one of the founding venues in the Torpedo Factory Art Center, is among a select group of artists' spaces that have kept their doors open for over 50 years. We are one of the only galleries in the country to focus on traditional enamel techniques, the age-old art of fusing colorful glass to metal. Our passion is to help this tradition thrive, both through producing high quality artistic works and educating the public.
Whether through workshops, private study, or experimentation, our members aim to continually evolve as artists. Each month, new work is produced relating to a monthly theme and submitted to the gallery for review. We invite a non-member juror with artistic expertise to critique both new and previous work, offering feedback on both our craftsmanship and vision. Only work meeting the highest quality standards is presented to the public for sale.
Additionally, our enamel artists extend their substantial knowledge base to the public at large. Several of our members have taught courses at The Art League School over the years, passing on their valuable skills to the next generation. Further, we occasionally demonstrate our craft to the public, giving them an inside look at the time honored skill of enameling.
Over the years, a changing roster of more than 85 artist members have contributed their creative vision and skill to the space, sharing their passion with the public and offering an impressive selection of enamel and metalwork pieces for purchase. Whether working to create an inviting space, or using personal resources to keep the gallery afloat during the pandemic, members' commitment to the arts and each other is strong.
Our location in Studio 28 is close to the Union Street main door, and that means we’re often the first space the public visits during their time at the Torpedo Factory Art Center. We endeavor to create a welcoming environment for the public to view our work and ask questions, and we're proud of the improvements we’ve made to our gallery over the years, including a fantastic lighting setup that allows each piece to shine.
The Enamelists Gallery relies on the continued patronage and support of the community, and we hope that we are able to give back more than we receive. We recognize how special our gallery and the Torpedo Factory Art Center are in fostering the arts, and we do everything in our power to continue to grow as individual artists and members of the community at large. Our gallery is open every day the Torpedo Factory is open, and we hope, if we haven’t already, that we get to meet you soon.
